The Free College Education

October 7, 2023- Saturday

Money. For most people, there is never enough money. There is usually even less money when kids are added to the equation. Now families are faced with the decision of whether to go to college or not. The reason it is a question is because of the astronomical cost of a college education. Some young people are choosing trade schools or other paid apprentice programs and not going to college. The thousands upon thousands of dollars colleges and universities are charging have resulted in years and years of debt payments for those wanting to go that route. Yes, each person has a choice and decides whether they want to fight the debt for most of the rest of their lives.

Once that decision is made, we don’t need the government coming in and forgiving debt. That tells the students they are not fully responsible for their decision. Government forgiveness sends the message loud and clear to the universities they can charge even more because the government is going to offset the costs. It is also the first step by pro-government leaders who want people depending upon the government for their very existence, to institute free college tuition for anyone who wants to go. That is not sustainable for this government.

If a person wants a college education and wants to minimize the debt, it can be done but it will look different from the traditional approach. The first two years could be at a local junior college. The last two years at a very close to home state school to eliminate having to pay for room and board with debt. It also means attending state schools which are philosophically iffy these days. There is also attending school part-time and working to pay for the education as you go. There are personal situations that make a college education difficult to obtain. If one doesn’t have deep pockets, paying for college can be quite daunting if not impossible. It does take work. The traditional approach is just out of many people’s reaches now. We don’t need the government giving away free education to everyone. Not everyone has special needs for the government to meet.
