Dying in Chicago Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
September 6, 2025- Saturday
I haven’t had much to say lately about the news and that's probably good. The constant news cycle has worn me out. I still listen to the news so I will know what is happening, but I have cut out much of the news because of all the negativity that gets repeated several times per hour.
We now have word that seven people were killed in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. Over thirty people were shot or injured in the shootings. The weekly shootings and killing in Chicago, Illinois has been constant for the last several years. It is debatable as to who all is doing the shooting, but the fact is, the shooting continues on a weekly basis in Chicago and nothing the political and law enforcement leaders do in Chicago changes anything.
Now President Donald Trump wants to address the violence as he did in Washington, D.C. and send in the National Guard into Chicago in an attempt to stop the killing. The political leaders In Illinois and Chicago do not want the National Guard to help.
After years of killing in Chicago, it appears the Democratic leaders in Illinois and Chicago are okay with five to ten people being murdered there every week. Whatever they have done to curb the violence has not worked. People are still consistently dying. This has been going on in Chicago for years now, but they do not want any help. They believe the status quo is sufficient.
Listening to the governor of Illinois and the mayor of Chicago, their solution is for the United States to ban gun ownership by citizens who are not in the military or part of a police force. That is the key part of what they talk about when it comes to decreasing the violence in Chicago.
Gun control amongst the citizenry would have probably been a way to address gun deaths eighty to one hundred years ago. Today there are millions of guns in circulation in the world and those who have the most are the "bad guys". Banning gun ownership now is an impossible task. That seems to be the only answer the Chicago leadership has.
What is wrong with these people? What they have been doing has failed miserably but they want to continue to do what they have always done and are expecting a different result. President Trump is trying to do something different to save lives, but the Democratic leaders seem to be fine with people dying. You can argue President Trump's motivations all day long, but this is a perfect example of ideological insanity. The Chicago and Illinois political leadership is so blinded by ideology, they are okay with people continuing to die.
In looking at this level of ideological insanity, one must wonder why the same type of ideology continues to be elected to the highest leadership positions in Chicago and Illinois. There is a complicated question but would not the routine killing of other people finally rise to the top of the issues list and cause a change in ideology? Why do people of this ideology continue to be elected? If the loss of life is not the top issue in city and state elections in Illinois, what is a bigger issue? It is a very baffling situation especially when someone is wanting to help stop the killing.
