No More Ron DeSantis

January 2, 2024- Monday

Ron DeSantis got a little more attention on Sunday. He quit. It was a bit surprising, but the announcement came and then all the analysis started. DeSantis’ campaign seemed to be a little on the herky-jerky side. It started and then he decided to cover Iowa but ignore New Hampshire. He was going to stake his claim on South Carolina. Suddenly, he’s out. Well, the handwriting has been on the wall for quite a while now and DeSantis finally saw it and read it and internalized it. Donald Trump has a massive lead in every poll taken. He is now leading in every poll against Joe Biden. Donald Trump is the 800-pound gorilla in the Republican room. Nikki Haley will soon realize that there is not a lot she can do to reverse these numbers.

Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley have accomplished what they needed to do for this general election cycle. Their name identification and views are part of the public record and will be on full display again in 2028. Yes, it is fully expected they will be part of the Republican picture in 2028 when Trump will no longer be an option for the American electorate. The wild card in this scenario though has everything to do with who Donald Trump selects as a Vice-Presidential candidate. This is where the conspiracy theory sets in.

Trump can only win one more election, but his ego is so massive, he still wants to be in an informal position to be able to affect government policy when he leaves Washington D.C. in January of 2029. Rumors abound on who the vice-presidential candidate will be, and things are pointing to Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota, or Tim Scott, senator from South Carolina. Tim Scott works because he is young and an African American. Kristi Noem works because she is young and a woman. Trump is going to want someone to follow him in office who will listen to him and allow him to have a large amount of input into how the country continues to run. Trump is looking at the upcoming general election as the potential for a 12-year run.  Trump will undoubtedly make that part of the conversation and selection process for his vice-presidential candidate.

In order to see if this whole thought process is correct or not, it will require Donald Trump to win in November and not implode in office in his four-year tenure. Meanwhile, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis will be positioning themselves for 2028 and can throw a wrench into this whole conspiracy theory.
