Let's Change Statute of Limitations

March 15, 2024- Friday

The legal system in the United States found that it is important for most laws to have specific statutes of limitations to provide levels of protection for American citizens. If a citizen is contemplating filing a legal charge against another person, there are times when they do not consider whether the statute of limitations has expired on their issue or not. Citizens are held to these limitations, but it appears there are now district attorneys and politicians are finding that statute of limitations are suggestions in one person’s instance.

Allen Bragg, the District Attorney in New York City worked to have the statute of limitations changed in New York to allow them to charge former President Donald Trump for sexual assault of a woman over thirty years ago. The statute of limitations was changed and as part of the change, the change in the statute of limitations was given an expiration date of one year. At the end of the year, the law would revert to the previous statute of limitation.

Laws were also changed to allow the prosecution of Donald Trump for overvaluing his New York properties to get better loan rates from banks.  This change was made specifically to be able to charge Donald Trump for a felony rather than a misdemeanor as it was originally on the books. This allowed for greater penalties associated with the accused crime. The trial was also not presented to a jury. It was presided over by a single judge and the judge presented his own findings prior to any testimony by the Trump legal team and Donald Trump himself. The entire legal system in New York was changed to target Donald Trump and to convict him. Mission accomplished.

I am not a Donald Trump fan. I am also not a fan of rules of law being changed to allow a specific American citizen to be targeted for legal charges. These unprecedented actions in New York show us what society would look like if politicians and lawyers were allowed to let their philosophical beliefs dictate their actions legally against people they disagree with.

If you are pro-abortion and you want to donate to Planned Parenthood to terminate the lives of babies, you have that right. To change laws so you can target someone who does not agree with your beliefs is wrong. We need to know these types of actions are a threat to real freedom in America and those individuals should be removed from their offices. I cannot vote in New York and unfortunately, odds are good these unfair individuals will be re-elected because there are people in New York who do not like Donald Trump
