Dallas Cowboys 2024- Rest In Peace

November 5, 2024- Tuesday

The Dallas Cowboys are now sporting a losing record for 2024.  They have three wins and five losses.  There are several more losses looming in the immediate future.  Look at the facts.

The Dallas Cowboys have a limited number of players who can start for other teams in the NFL.  Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Duron Bland, Trayvon Diggs are legitimate starters.  All but one has missed multiple games because of injuries.  On offense, Zack Martin, CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson are legitimate starters on offense.  The two kickers the Cowboys have are two of the best in the league.  That's it.  The rest of the Dallas Cowboys are second or third on other teams' depth charts.

That's correct.  Dak Prescott would be a good back-up quarterback. He is not a starter.  He still cannot read a defense, and he is now a much slower runner than in previous years. He is still good at throwing interceptions.  Now he is the highest paid quarterback in the NFL.  Some are now complaining about the coaching.

Mike McCarthy is a Super Bowl winning coach.  He hasn't lost all of the knowledge on how to win.  What he has lost are the players necessary to win a Super Bowl.  When a team only has 7 or 8 legitimate starters in its 22 starting positions, that team is not going to win many football games regardless of who the coach is.  Figure into the equation players that apparently do not have a high football IQ as evidenced by penalties and too many players on the field or too few players on the field and what you have is a full-blown mess.

That leads us back to the architect of the team.  Many Cowboy fans are railing against the owner of the team because he is the architect of this team.  Whether because of the salary cap or because of having a low football IQ, Jerry Jones are dramatically weakened this team, and he has weakened this team for the next four years because of the astronomical contract he gave to starting quarterback.  Jerry Jones built teams have 5 playoff wins for the last 28 years.  What makes Dallas Cowboys fan think this is going to get better?

Yes, this team has had some 12-win seasons.  Look at those records and see who they lost to.  They lost to the good teams and padded their statistics on the rest of the schedule that was mediocre to poor.  Check CeeDee Lamb's receiving statistics in those losses.  They are not good.  This team has been mediocre for many years, but Jerry Jones pulled the rug out from under this team in the offseason after he proclaimed he was "all in" for 2024.  What he really meant was he was all in when it came to signing Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.  He left Mike McCarthy with a team of second and third string players.

Mike McCarthy and the remainder of the coaching staff will be unemployed in a couple of months.  A new coaching staff will be hired and given a chance to coach a team of second and third string players.  We will see if there are any miracle workers in the NFL.  Meanwhile, Jerry Jones, the General Manager, will still be in place and calling all the shots.  "When you continue to do what you've always done, you will continue to get what you've always gotten."
