Raised on Outlaw Logic
May 2, 2025- Friday
I was raised independently. We lived in west Texas when I was a kid so there was a lot of time spent outside, and it was a safe environment. My dad was rarely around, and my mom did not spend much time checking on me. I basically had the run of the small town of 10,000. So, the real question is how did I learn to be a productive adult in the world without adult or parental guidance?
First and foremost, the grace of God. I am convinced God knew I was operating at a deficit, so the Holy Spirit intervened on my behalf. I began to be sensitive to how other adult did work with their kids. I learned by trial and error what type of behavior was well received by others and what was not. I listened and learned from the Sunday School teachers I had and what I learned from basic Biblical principles and how to apply those principles on a daily basis.
When I was a teenager, I began to learn from people I worked with. Sometimes this learning involved not repeating their mistakes. There was another day that greatly influenced me. It was when my dad and my mom were having an argument and Dad became very aggressive and intimidating to Mom. He was yelling at her and was inches away from her face as she cowered in a rocking chair. I waited to make sure there would be no physical violence. The verbal and emotional abuse ended without any physical violence and at sixteen years old, I decided I would do best in life by being the opposite person of who my dad was. It was sad. Watch my dad and do the opposite.
It was that or be raised by wolves.
