Bye, Bye Micah Parsons
August 31, 2025- Sunday
August 28, 2025, is a day that will live in infamy if you are a Dallas Cowboys fan. Jerry Jones in his infinite wisdom decided it was time to trade the best player on the team. Jones traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for a defensive tackle on the downside of his career and two number 1 draft picks, one in 2026 and one in 2027.
Jerry Jones decided Micah Parsons best value to the Dallas Cowboys was to play for another team. Jones is trying to replay history when the Cowboys traded Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings for what ended up being five draft picks. This is a different time than the mid-1980's and there is no Jimmy Johnson around to evaluate players and what to do with those draft picks.
Jerry Jones as general manager of the Dallas Cowboys has failed to advance to the National Football Conference Championship Game for thirty years. Thirty years. How many other general managers would still be employed in the NFL after thirty years of mediocre football. None. None unless the general manager is the owner and that is the curse of the Cowboys at this time.
The draft picks from the Packers are going to picks low in the first round of the draft because they now have and elite player on a defense that is already very good. How good are those players going to be? Jones said they have the option to package those picks in possible deals. Doesn’t that approach make this trade even worse? On a time that needs a quantity of very good players, one would consider packaging for fewer players. This is crazy thinking.
All the events surrounding this trade are stunning and it is the second time the Dallas sports community has been shaken following the trade of Luke Doncic from the Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the year. In the press conference Jones and his son Stephen held came something even more stunning.
Because of the acquisition of Kenny Clark, a defensive tackle, in the trade for Parsons, Jones actually said since they feel they can now stop other teams from running against the, they team’s coaches can scheme to get pass rushes to pressure the opposing quarterback, and they will actually be better than if they had kept Parsons. That, my friends, is the type of thinking that may actually keep the Cowboys out of the playoffs all together.
Jerry Jones got mad with his money because he did not want to include Parson’s agent in the negotiating of a new contract. Jones works to take advantage of players by sidestepping players agents. He has a history of doing this and most of the players he is deceiving are young and have no background in the fine art of negotiating or finances. That did not happen this time, so Jones walked away. “I’m going to take my ball and go home.”
Jones also said this trade was going allow the Cowboys to win now. Really? Well, the Cowboys start the season in Philadelphia playing the Super Bowl Champion Eagles without Micah Parsons. They play the Green Bay Packers on September 28th in Dallas against Micah Parsons. Do you think he might be just a little motivated to play well in that game?
The Cowboys have a soft schedule in the first half of the season so they may have a deceptively decent record going into their bye week. After that, it is very likely the Cowboys win only one game for the rest of the season. It is beginning to look like Dallas Cowboys fans will have roast Jones for Thanksgiving this year. Just like the last thirty years.
