Common Sense
September 11, 2025
When I think about common sense, I think I have been blessed with a good amount of common sense. I would think most people think they have common sense. Life tells me that is not true.
Until recently, millions of people were coming across our country’s border illegally, many of whom are criminals. We have had many legal citizens raped and murdered by these illegal aliens, yet there are a large number of people screaming for these illegals to be allowed to stay in our country.
We have people protesting against Israel because they defended themselves against Hamas terrorists. These terrorists were living in Gaza, crossed the border into Israel and killed 1200 Israelis for no reason. Many people around the world are claiming Israel overreacted because many civilians were killed in Gaza when Israel went after the terrorists.
This situation shows how people’s emotions cloud their ability to use common sense. Whether it is hatred toward someone or a group, whether it is greed, control or power, some people will not give common sense a place in situations. To me, that is when you get conflict, sometimes perpetual conflict.
One must allow themselves to pause in life’s situations and begin to look at the situation and go through a list of “what if” questions to determine what will happen if certain actions are taken. Common sense requires critical thinking skills and these “what if” questions will give a person knowledge. Once this knowledge is learned, sometimes through repetition, it can be applied to future situations.
Common sense is learned. Some people avoid the learning because it does require some effort but sometimes it also means not doing something we really want to do.
