Need Versus Want

Topic of the Day- Need Versus Want. Is what I want what I need?

Living in the United States, needs are fairly easy to access. The government and local social groups can provide people with their needs. Emotional and psychological needs are much harder to come by for everyone.

So many of our social agencies are strapped for resources not by our citizens but by illegal aliens who are not able to provide for themselves. What these illegal aliens want is more money and/or a peaceful existence. This is what they want and some need. I cannot blame many of them for wanting to move heaven and earth to obtain this type of life. There is a legal way to accomplish this however and the rule of law must apply. By coming to the United States, these illegal aliens are sucking away the resources from our legitimate citizens. The things these illegal aliens feel they need are the same things some of our own citizens need but cannot get now the illegal aliens are here. Whether a legal citizen or an illegal alien, the needs are still real.

Honestly, I have few needs. I am fortunate to have been born here. I am fortunate to have been born to hard-working middle class, white, citizens. I received a solid education and worked to earn my way in this society. My path was not a hard path like it has been for many citizens and especially those illegal aliens. My needs have always been met and rarely have I needed things I wanted.

These days, I feeI I need books, but the reality is I don’t need books if I have pen and paper so I can write. If I were deprived of both, I would have some level of personal anxiety. I do want a higher level of purpose in my retirement, and this want does approach the level of need for me.

I have a strong need to be wanted and needed. That is acceptance to me, and I have a strong need to be accepted. I work to meet those personal needs. I compromise. I stay quiet at times to promote my acceptance or to avoid rejection. I should be spending more time helping to meet the needs of others. In doing that, I would be meeting all my own needs.

Most of the time, if we want to advance others, we would be helping to meet their needs and by doing that, we will meet our own needs.
