No More Government Shutdowns

November 3, 2025- Monday

The U.S. Senate is considering eliminating the filibuster so the Republicans can open the government. The Democrats ae holding out for $1.5 trillion so they can continue to fund Obamacare. I hope the Senate eliminates the filibuster because I don’t think the government should ever close. That should never be a consequence of any legislation.

If the powers that be cannot agree on a budget, at the end of the budget year, the previous year's budget should immediately go into place with an automatic 2% reduction in the budget. That would apply to all departments except for non-elected salaries. I would also include the elected official appointees who see the 2% reduction in salary. I think that would work.

There are people who have legitimate needs for some government assistance that stopped this past Saturday, and those people should not be the ones who pay the actual price for the lawmaker’s incompetence. There are things that definitely need to be reviewed when it comes to healthcare, but it cannot be addressed while the government is closed.

We do not need to be using our tax-payer dollars to promote social issues in other countries but that is included in the $1.5 trillion the Democrats are demanding. The Republicans need to be prepared to engage in honest negotiations regarding the health care coverage for many Americans. They are all receiving so much money in campaign contributions from the insurance companies, so the conflicts are real, but this is allegedly the reason why the government is closed.

Both parties need to be honest with the American public. I know that would be a new behavior, but can’t we ask for that?
