Tolerance and Principles
Topic of the Day: We are not here to tolerate our differences; we are here to accept them. We are not here to celebrate our sameness; we are here to salute our distinctions. We are not born into equal circumstances, or with equal abilities, but we should have equal opportunity. As individuals, we unite in our values. Celebrate that.
This is an interesting topic. I have worked with many people who believe differently from the way I believe. I have seen how a Biblical worldview provides positive unity. I have seen how other worldviews create conflict and chaos. Why is this?
There is usually such a huge element of selfishness wrapped in other worldviews. The views are focused on what individuals want rather than what is good for the whole. Illegal aliens want to come into the United States without restraint because this is what they want and they do not want to follow the laws of entry. Some people want everyone to be paid the same amount of money for work because they want more money and do not want to work for it or wait to earn it. Many want their neuroses to be accepted as normal because that is what they want. They do not want to accept their neuroses or work to eliminate those neuroses from their lives.
There is a lyric in the song, “This Little Child”, that says, “...and fools who march to win the right to justify their sins.” It is these selfish intents that cause division. The selfish demand tolerance of their selfishness and when that does not happen, conflict is created.
What are the principles the selfish are based? It depends on what they want for themselves at a specific time. Their principles are moving targets, and they demand tolerance for whatever they want at any given time. If one disagrees, there is no tolerance extended toward them. It is considered hatred or some type of hateful phobia. One set of principles changes depending on a person’s desires one day to another as opposed to principles that have been tried and tested to be true for over four thousand years.
Personalities and interests can be distinctions that are recognized and enjoyed but when principles begin to diverge, conflict is created and will remain unless the principles are accepted.
