The Luka Doncic Trade- Utter Incompentence

February 4, 2025- Tuesday

Around midnight on February 2nd, the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, a day that will live in infamy.  That's a little dramatic but this trad shook more than just the sports world.  It actually made the NBC Nightly News.  Why? Doncic has always been considered a generational player.  That is what they called LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, and Shohei Ohtani.  Doncic had the statistics showing he was that kind of player.  That being said, the Mavericks did not want him.  After six years, adios amigo.

Nico Harrison is the General Manager of the Dallas Mavericks and the one who has said this trade was his decision.  He said defense wins championships and he saw an opportunity to trade Doncic for a better defensive player, Anthony Davis. Davis is a better defensive player, but he is no generational player.  Davis is an overall much lesser player than Doncic.  The mavericks were in the NBA Finals last year because of Doncic.  They will not be in The Finals again this year without Doncic.  The Dallas Mavericks are not just another good basketball team but a team without any pressure players.

The Dallas sports community is still reeling from the trade.  Nico Harrison needs to brace himself the next time he shows himself at the American Airlines Center for a Mavericks' game.  I anticipate the boos he hears will make Kiki Vandeweghe proud.  This trade is a travesty and should have never been discussed.

Now the trade is done.  There is only one way to make the trade palatable and that is a NBA Championship this year or next year for the Dallas Mavericks.  If not, Nico Harrison should be fired before the Mavericks become the laughingstock of the NBA again as it was when it was an expansion team in the 1980's.
