Adios, Dallas Mavericks
March 17, 2025- Monday
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I am 70 years old, and I’ve always been a sports fan. I really wanted to play football in junior high and high school, if not college, but my dad wouldn’t allow it. I played a lot of pick-up football, baseball and basketball games when I was younger, and I’ve continued to watch and enjoy sports to this day.
Like everything in life, sport is changing. Sport has become political with men claiming they identify as women and wanting to compete with women rather than me. College sports is now professional sports with athletes being paid to play for colleges. That has taken away some of my excitement for college sports. There’s also a lot of stupidity in sports and that is not necessarily anything new. That was recently on vivid display with the Dallas Mavericks when the general manager, Nico Harrison, traded generational player, Luka Doncic, to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The stupid things are that Harrison called Doncic a generational player but traded him anyway. Who does that? You publicly tell the world you have one of the best players to ever play the game, yet you trade them anyway? Unless you are trading for an equal generational player, this does not happen. Harrison traded for an often injured, good player, five years older than Doncic and a very good younger player but not a great player. Then there’s the first-round draft pick five years from now. that pick is in high school now and with Doncic leading the Lakers, the pick will probably be like a second-round pick, not a quality first round pick. Remember, Doncic had the Mavericks in the NBA Finals last year.
I am no longer a Dallas Mavericks fan. This level of stupidity cannot be rewarded by watching them on TV, buying tickets to games or buying merchandise. This level of stupidity is now being coupled with the gambling syndicate ownership arrogance being displayed about the trade. They throw out management mumbo jumbo when discussing the trade. They are also condescending to people protesting the possible building of an arena and resort with gambling in Irving, Texas.
These are incompetent people running the Mavericks now and dumb people when it comes to basketball and public relations. The Dallas Mavericks are now a dumpster fire, and I really no longer care if they burn to the ground. I don’t need NBA basketball, and I sure don’t need or even want, the Dallas Mavericks. The leadership of the Mavericks are much more interested in making money than they are interested in winning. Adios, Mavericks.
